Amber Ridge, Darien Vineyard
Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
This is a hillside vineyard and was planted in 2000 with
Pinot clones 115, 667 and 777 on 101-14 rootstock. The vineyard
is farmed by a seasoned veteran who practices sustainable agricultural.
This year we’ve secured a combination of these clones
that bring out great things from this tremendous Russian River
site. We are not alone in believing this vineyard has “next
big thing” written all over it. We probably shouldn’t
drop names, but let’s just say we are in awe of the other winemakers
that also use fruit from this vineyard. You heard it here,
this vineyard will be famous! We are pleased to have six barrels
of this nectar resting in the cellar!
Brosseau Vineyard
Chalone (Monterey) Pinot Noir
This vineyard is located at an elevation of about 1,600 feet
in the Gabilan (aka Gavilan) Mountain Range and produces tremendous
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This vineyard is planted in some
of the heaviest limestone soils in California which results
in stressed vines that produce concentrated, long-lived wines.
The Pinot is up to 23 years old and is planted with Chalone,
Pommard and Dijon clones.
La Encantada Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills
Located on the cooler west side of Sta. Rita hills, La Encantada was planted in
2001. Here, the mountains run east to west, funneling troughs of chilly temperatures and fog in from the coast. La Encantada, the first certified organic site in Santa Barbara, is planted to a range of Dijon clones on devigorating rootstock that produce tiny clusters with yields hovering around 2 tons per acre. The result is dark cherry, earth and spice.
Gap's Crown Vineyard Sonoma Coast
Gap's Crown is located in the Sonoma Coast growing region on the west side of
Sonoma Mountain. Its rocky soils combine with winds from the Petaluma Gap to
create a challenging growing environment, but one that consistently produces
great fruit. Most of the vineyard has optimal southwest exposure and is densely
planted with over 2000 vines per acre. Wines from this cool climate site are very
dark, feature dark cherry and have an excellent tannin and acid backbone.
Las Madres
Carneros Syrah
Carneros is an exciting region for Syrah. This vineyard is
becoming mature and we believe this vineyard site is a special
place, farmed by special people. Planted on a combination of
300 and 174 clones on hillside slopes, it ripens early, but
still gets plenty of hang time to develop. The 300 block provides
a strong core of forward fruit while the 174 block backs it
up with more structured, earthy components. The vineyard uses
organic practices and is farmed generally down to a single
cluster per shoot.
Rancho Ontiveros
Santa Maria Pinot noir
James Ontiveros, who is affiliated with the Bien Nacido vineyard, also farms this wonderful vineyard. Located on rolling hill not far from Bien Nacido with cattle and oil rigs nearby. Warm sun during the day and cool breezes at night make this site wonderful for pinot noir. Planted to a variety of clones including 113, 114, 155, 1A and Swan clone this vineyard is producing grapes that make some wonderful wine.
White Hawk Vineyard Santa Barbara Syrah
900 foot elevation and pure sand stress the vines producing concentrated wines with good acidity and dark berry flavors. Some classic California syrah have been made from this place and we believe more are on the way!
Wentzel Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
A new vineyard for us in 2006, this organically farmed hillside site is managed by Mendocino vine wizard Casey Hartlip. No expense is spared in the farming, no herbicides, just weed eaters, no fertilizer, and just worm casings. Wines from this site tend to have excellent color and structure and depth of fruit. Look for us to stay in the Anderson Valley for the long haul!
